Staying Safe Online

When you shop online, be smart about the whole purchasing process. Use your common sense and trust your instincts. Buynuse is here to give customers a free and easy way to buy, sell and find opportunities. While most people who use Buynuse stick to the rules, some break them and cause a problem. We can’t keep an eye on everyone all the time, so we share as much advice with our customers as we can to keep them safe.

If someone is breaking our rules and a customer reports them, we will block them and delete their ad. If it’s a very serious issue, we encourage customers to call the police.

Here are our top tips to staying safe when trading online.

Try to meet in person. This gives you the chance to check what you’re buying before you pay.

✔   If you’ve asked someone to come to your house, make sure somebody’s there with you.

✔   You’re meeting in a public place, try to do it during the day somewhere busy, like at your local coffee shop.

✔   Try not to carry lots of money. If you’ve already agreed a price, take that amount. Otherwise, agree how much and get the money out later.

✔   If you’re the seller, count the cash before you accept it.

✔   Ask lots of questions to make sure it’s exactly what you want.

✔   If you don’t like it or you’re having second thoughts, say no.
Check the item’s real. Some things like phones are known for being either fakes or copies, so be aware of this and check the item before you buy it.
Try to pay cash. Some people are clever in taking your money when you pay online, so always aim for cash. If taking cash, make sure you check that the banknotes are real.
Ask for paperwork. Especially when buying a car, bringing a pet home, or buying electronics. Ask for receipt, invoice or warranty certificate.
Reply safely. Buynuse has an internal email system built up, so users can message the seller of any item and place an offer of choosing. Such system stops spam or suspicious emails from getting to you. This saves you both time and trouble if a scammer was trying to reach you. We also hide your email address when you message someone. So they’ll see the content of your message and be able to email you back, but your email address will not be shared.
Since our messaging system protects you, you may have people who ask you to take the conversation off Buynuse, onto either your private email or texts. Be careful when you do. An honest seller would have no reason to take you away from a secure messaging system.
Always go to the website directly. Buynuse does not get involved in payments or item delivery between buyers and sellers. If someone tells you that they’re going to make a payment or deliver items through us, they’re not being honest with you. Even if they link you back to our website, we just don’t offer these kinds of services.
Buynuse would never contact you to ask for your credit card details, account name or password to ‘confirm’ or ‘verify’ your status. We never send any SMS messages asking you for your password or bank details. Sometimes scammers reply to ads by SMS message, pretending to be buyers. These SMS messages ask you to click on funny-looking URL links. Or reply to a new or different email address instead of click on a link.

The top tip here is, always go to a website directly by using your browser instead of following a link.

Fake websites can contain malware that allow scammers to take control of your computer or take all of your info. Protect yourself with the latest version of your web browser and use an anti-virus program.
